PROFILE OF PRINCIPAL

Mr. M.V. Purushothaman, the chief mentor, is the founder Principal of National College and he still continues in the post. A post graduate in English Literature, he has been in the educational field for more than 47 years. In 2002, he established Gurudev Arts & Science College, affiliated to Kannur Uniersity at Mathil, near Payyannur. It is now one of the leading self-financing arts and Science Colleges under Kannur University. He is the Managing Trustee of Gurudev Educational & Charitable Trust which manages both National College and NICT, the computer wing of the college.

NATIONAL COLLEGE

National college was established in 1975 with an aim to impart tuition classes for school and college going students. At the time of inception, the classes were started in a rented building at Taliparamba. Sri. M.V. Purushothaman was the founder principal of the college. As a result of the hard work and perseverance of the promoters and teachers, this venture became a grant success. In 1977, the college started Pre Degree course for private registered students of Calicut University. Within a few years the college became very popular and became one of the most sought after colleges in Kannur District. The students strength of the college increased and the management thought of alternate arrangements to accommodate the growing number of students.

1984 the college was shifted to its own building at Court Road, Taliparamba. The same year first B.Com batch started with a few students. Within in a few years classes for BA English, History, Economics, Political Science, Malayalam and B.Sc Maths were also started. After regularization of the above UG classes Post Graduate classes in M.Com, M.A History, English, Economics, Political Science and M.Sc Maths were also started and all the courses were a grand success.

The Establishment of Kannur University and de-linking of Pre-Degree from colleges forced to change the functioning of the college. Calicut University withdrew examination centers from Kannur University area. The college was forced to withdraw all courses hither to started under Calicut University. The college was forced to start unwillingly a few courses offered by Kannur University under Distance Education System. Inspite of these adverse circumstances the college could maintain its position in the higher education filed.

In 2002 the management of the college was brought under Gurudev Educational and Charitable Trust, which established Gurudev Arts and Science College at Mathil affiliated to Kannur University. Our principal Sri. M.V. Purushothaman is the Managing Director of the Trust. A present the college offered +2 commerce and Humanities, BA English, Economics, History, B.Com, MA English, M.Com and M.A History.

The Computer Wing of National College, NICT was established in 1996. The computer centre is the Educational partner of C-Dit, a Kerala Government undertaking. It is also affiliated to Tally Solutions Pvt.Ltd, Banglore. C-Dit offers a variety of computer courses approved by PSC and Government of Kerala. The college has separate block for +2, Degree and PG courses. About 1700 students are at present studying in the college for different courses.
